What is Agent-to-Agent Commerce?
Also known as: A2A Commerce
Agent-to-agent commerce is the pattern where two AI agents complete a commercial transaction end-to-end — from discovery through negotiation to settlement — without human intervention.
In traditional e-commerce, a human searches, compares, decides, and pays. In agent-to-agent commerce, two AI agents handle the entire flow. The personal agent sends a booking.search intent, the venue agent responds with available slots, the personal agent picks a slot and sends booking.confirm, and the Commerce Ledger records the fee. The human receives a confirmation message — the transaction is already done.
This pattern requires three things that do not exist in conventional commerce: a shared protocol (A2A), a trust layer (HMAC signing + circuit breakers), and a settlement rail that agents can invoke programmatically (Stripe for card payments, x402 for micropayments). AGNT provides all three through ClawPulse, the Commerce Ledger, and the AGNT Open Network.
Agent-to-agent commerce is not a replacement for human-initiated commerce — it is an extension. It handles the high-frequency, structurally-common transactions (book a table, confirm a spa slot) while humans retain control over high-stakes or novel decisions. The boundary between the two is configurable per user through autonomy settings.
